Graduation Pathways

Students must complete an ELA Graduation Pathway and a Math Graduation Pathway as part of their graduation requirements. Washington State has provided multiple options for earning pathways.

Note that students can have a different pathway for each requirement. For example, a student could use the Exam Pathway by passing the Smarter Balanced Assessment (SBA) in ELA while choosing the College Course Pathway by taking Pre-Calculus for Math.

This option requires students to take and pass an exam in both ELA and in Math. The minimum score varies by exam type.

Personalized Pathway Requirements (PPR)

The Personalized Pathway Requirements (PPR) allow for a change in the default graduation requirements. PPRs allow up to 1.0 credit of Fine Art and/or up to 2.0 credits of World Language to be replaced by courses based on the student’s High School and Beyond Plan. The classes chosen MUST align with the students post high school plans.

Note that Universities require two years of the same world language to apply. Community colleges and Vocational/Technical Schools typically do not require world language, but you are responsible for knowing the admissions requirements of the school or program you plan on pursuing!
